SOLD – SOLD – SOLD…………A 1953 UK RHD example, this XK120 Open Two Seater was supplied new by Jaguar dealers Appleyards. A couple of years later it was given as a 21st birthday present to Michael Brook, a self-styled ‘rich kid’ who used the car ‘for courting during the week and racing at the weekend at long-forgotten circuits such as Marston Moor, Full Sutton and Rufforth’. The car then found its way into the ownership of journalist and VSCC racer Ray Potter (who also owned and campaigned the famous ERA/Delage) and who eventually sold it to its present owner in 2003.
By 2013 the car was given a total mechanical rebuild/refurbishment by Simon Hemsley in preparation for its entry in the 2014 Mille Miglia. Driven by the owner and his friend Jo Ramirez (ex McLaren F1 Team co-ordinator), the car successfully completed this prestigious thousand mile course (in rather better shape than its occupants!)
Despite a few paint blemishes, the car is extremely sound and drives quite exceptionally well. Very good performance, a lovely Moss gearbox, a very strong engine and is dynamically spot-on. The original windscreen, seats and full weather equipment accompany the car together with a large history file and a wonderful print by Michael Turner depicting the car leaving the San Marino stage of the 2014 Mille Miglia.
What more can a man (or woman) want?!
