In the space of two weeks, since we reopened our doors on January 2nd, the E-Type restoration has moved ahead in leaps and bounds. What arrived in mid-December as a rolling `wreck` was quickly dismantled to its bare monococque shell, sent off for media blasting and phosphate coating and returned just before we closed for Christmas.
Now – just two weeks into the New Year – we have a sturdy shell with new inner sills and floors (see later details) and beautifully crafted localised repairs to certain peripheral panels. The new boot floor is also in place awaiting final fitting. Throughout this process the integrity of the structure has remained rigid with careful bracing to avoid any distortion.
Unlike so many restorations our prime objective is to replace only what is necessary – rather than ripping it apart indiscriminately – thus retaining as much integrity as possible. It takes a little longer. but the result is so much better!
With the floors, we found that the longitudinal chassis rails and remaining floor section between them and the tunnel, were in excellent order so skillful use of new materials and retention of original structure have preserved the integrity of the centre section.

As ever this is a job very well executed, following the WinSpeed ethos of excellence……
